HONOLULU, Hawaii – The No. 53 UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team fell 4-3 to No. 75 Hawaii Sunday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex in their conference opener. The loss snapped a five-match win streak for the Gauchos, the longest unbeaten run of the season.
How it Happened
- Santa Barbara started off on the right foot, taking the doubles point. On court one, Phillip Jordan and Kai Brady beat Andre Ilagan and Karl Collins 6-3 and Pablo Masjuan and Gianluca Brunkow sealed the doubles victory, beating Simao Telo Alves and Kilian Maitre 6-4 on court three
- The Gauchos struggled in singles, though, dropping four of the six matches. Winners for UCSB were Pablo Masjuan on court two and Kai Brady on court four. Masjuan beat Axel Labunie in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 and Brady bested Guillaume Tattevin 6-3, 6-4
- The Rainbow Warriors had victories on courts one, three, five, and six. On court one, No. 20 Ilagan beat Jordan 6-1, 6-4. Blaz Seric's 6-3, 6-3 win over Victor Krustev on court three was the clinching point for Hawaii. On court five, Collins beat Brunkow 6-4, 6-2 and on six, Maitre topped Pierre Boullenger 6-1, 7-5
