The Body
First baseman Kyle Johnson, known around the dugout as The Body, has been using that big frame on the offensive end this year. He has been one of the best and most consistent bats in the Gaucho lineup this year showing enormous growth in being patient and having great at-bats. He currently ranks tenth in the Big West in slugging (.543), 13th in OBP (0.429), and ninth in OPS (.972). He also tied for seventh with 11 doubles, 16th with 21 RBI, and tied for 16th with 17 walks.

The Catch Heard Round the Conference
In game one at UC Davis the Gauchos led the Aggies 5-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth. With two outs the Aggies brought the tying run to the plate in Kyler Arenado, who sent what would've been a game tying-home run over the left field wall, but Gaucho Christian Kirtley had plans of his own snagging the ball from over the wall to end the game.
Recap from Lake Elsinore
The Gauchos went head-to-head with the Tritons of UC San Diego in a pair of neutral games this past weekend (March 11th-12th). The Gauchos came home with both wins, on Friday (9-6) and the nail-biter on Saturday morning (3-2). Saturday's game in particular saw all the runs scored for both teams within the first two innings, with the game winning point by Kirtley who was brought home by John Newman Jr.'s RBI. The teams kept everyone in suspense for the rest of the game as the Gauchos had stranded runners on the bases in the next five straight innings and left two on in the bottom of the ninth as Harvey collected a pair of K's with the game-tying run in scoring position.
Recap from Eugene
The Gauchos went head-to-head with the Oregon Ducks in a four-game series this past weekend (March 4th-6th). The teams split wins, with Oregon coming up big on Friday (3-2) and Saturday morning (4-3). UCSB hit back hard with double header wins on Saturday afternoon (5-4) and Sunday (7-5) to tie up the series.
