STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 8 UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team closed out the MPSF Invite in the 7th-place game on Sunday with a 9-5 loss to No. 6 UC Davis.
The Gauchos are now 7-7 on the year while the Aggies improve to 8-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Goalscorers: McFarland (3), Brosnan, McKenzie
Sophomore center Dash McFarland had another big day as he recorded his team-leading fifth hat trick of the year. Unfortunately for the Gauchos, their offense wasn't able to produce much else.
Ryan Brosnan and Sam McKenzie were the only UCSB players to score in the game as the Gauchos were held to a season-low five goals.
The Aggies controlled the game from the outset, scoring three unanswered goals in the first quarter. McFarland and Brosnan got UCSB on the board in the second quarter with one goal each, but UC Davis went into halftime up 6-2.
Santa Barbara wasn't able to make a dent in the lead the rest of the way. McFarland put in two of his three goals in the second half and McKenzie scored in the fourth quarter.
