Dueling with Determination in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - During a challenging two-day competition, UC Santa Barbara's men's and women's swim teams displayed tremendous potential earning a dual triumph over UC San Diego, but ultimately succumbed to the formidable competition posed by USC and Hawai'i. 
 

For the Boys, Highlights from an Exceptional Saturday:
The men's team had an exceptional Saturday, securing top three finishes in seven events. The day kicked off with a triumphant win in the 400-yard freestyle relay, where the team composed of Austin Sparrow, Rob Carpenter, Matt Driscoll, and Zachary Tamusaitis clinched third place with a swift time of 1:21.25. Sparrow's individual prowess was evident in the 200-yard freestyle, where he secured a silver finish (1:37.01). 

Kyle Brill was the standout performer of the day, claiming victory in two events: the men's 400-yard IM (3:51.83) and the 200 backstroke (1:44.95). Corban McIntosh and Henry Adamson also made significant contributions with individual wins in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke, with Adamson securing second place in the 100 (54.94) and McIntosh taking third in the 200 (1:59.92).

The men wrapped up the day on a high note, clinching a final victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team, featuring Matt Driscoll, Aiden Benjamin, Austin Sparrow, and Zachary Tamusaitis, secured a commendable third place with a swift time of 2:57.71.
 

For the Girls, Impressive Performances and Team Synergy: 
The women's team also had several standout performances during the meet. Sophomore Samantha Banos displayed her versatility and strength, finishing fourth in the challenging 400- yard IM with a time of 4:25.38. She continued her impressive run by capturing second place in the 200 butterfly, touching the wall in 2:00.61. Cami Collins also demonstrated her endurance in the grueling 1650-yard freestyle, taking fifth with a time of 17:43.92. 

Ending the day on a high note, the women also earned a top five spot in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The synergy between Samantha Banos, Tyryn Empremsilapa, Gretta Callison, and Reagan Nibarger was evident as they secured a fourth place finish (3:25.26)

In the upcoming week, the men's team will enjoy a well-deserved break, while our women's team makes their way back to Los Angeles for an anticipated showdown against the UCLA Bruins. Stay tuned for further updates as we approach the meet day, where exciting competition awaits.
