DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara Women's Soccer team fell to UC Davis 1-0 Sunday on the road at Aggie Soccer Field. The loss end the Gauchos 2023 season.
UC Davis got on the board early and held the one-goal lead for the remainder of the game. In the fifth minute of the match a failed clear attempt by UC Santa Barbara resulted in an Aggie attacker taking a shot just outside the 18-yard box. The shot beat Gaucho keeper Taylor Little to the top left side of the goal.
After the opening goal the Gauchos kept the Aggies off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game. Unfortunately the Gauchos could not find the equalizer. Shots by Jessica Carlton, Jessica Tamayo and Alyssa O'Brien were all stopped by the Aggie keeper to keep the Gauchos off the board.
The loss drops UC Santa Barbara's record to 4-8-7 overall and 2-6-2 in Big West play. Coming into the match, the Gauchos were eliminated from a Big West Championship spot after their loss to Hawai'i on Thursday, Oct. 19. This is the first time since the 2017 season the Gauchos will not compete in postseason play.
