SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Women's Soccer team is set for a single match this week. The Gauchos will travel south to San Diego as they take on the Tritons in more Big West action Thursday night.
LAST TIME OUT
Last week the Gauchos picked up a win and a draw in their two matches. UC Santa Barbara defeated UC Riverside 2-1 and tied with Cal State Fullerton 1-1. The Gauchos played the final 20 minutes of the match with 10 players.
UC San Diego is coming off two road matches that saw them go 1-1 on the week. The Tritons traveled to Hawai'i where they started the week with a 4-2 loss before heading to UC Davis and picking up a 3-1 win.
SCOUTING THE GAUCHOS
UC Santa Barbara continues to sit just one point out of a spot in The Big West Championship with a 1-2-2 Big West record. The Gauchos earned four points last week with a win and a draw.
Jessica Tamayo was unstoppable Thursday night against her former team, UC Riverside. She accounted for both Gaucho goals in the contest and now sits third on the team in points.
Samantha Christie picked up her first goal of the season with a header in the 66th minute. The goal was assisted by
Lauren Helwig, her third of the season, and
Emily Caughey, her first of the season.
Freshman,
Maddie Buckley continues to show consistent play in net. Now with the second-most minutes in goal for the Gauchos, Buckley has recorded a 1-1-3 record, 11 saves and a 1.52 goals-against average.
SCOUTING THE TRITONS
UC San Diego comes into the contest with a 2-6-3 overall record and a 1-1-1 record in The Big West. The Tritons picked up their first Big West win on Sunday, Oct. 1 as they defeated UC Davis.
The Triton offense is led by junior, forward, Raquel Kalpakoff who has scored five goals in just seven games played. Second on the team in goals is Courtney Hilliard who has five total points with two goals and an assist on the season.
In goal, Keara Fitzgerald has played and started every match for the Tritons. She currently posts a 2-6-3 record, 63 saves and a 2.00 goals-against average.
