SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Men's Basketball team (1-2) is back in The Thunderdome for one more game before hitting the road next week. The Gauchos will face a local opponent in the Westmont College Warriors, who are currently transitioning to NCAA Division II status. The last time these two teams played each other was in Jan. 2020, when the Gauchos won 87-66.
LAST TIME OUT
Santa Barbara was home in The Thunderdome looking for their first win of the season as they faced the Le Moyne College Dolphins. Le Moyne hung close to the Gauchos for the first five minutes until the Gauchos had enough, running up the score and ultimately winning the game 96-72.
WRANGLING THE WARRIORS
Westmont is starting the season with a .500-win percentage. They grabbed an 82-65 win over Montana State Billings before taking down Bethesda with a score of 118-61. Their two losses of the season came against Saint Martin's and San Francisco State.
Senior Anthony McIntyre is the leading point scorer for the Warriors. He currently has 54 on the season. He has put up double-digit points in all four games while having his best one against San Francisco State, when he contributed 18 points.
Senior forward Dayshone Henry is key to the team's defensive efforts. The Concordia Irvine transfer has grabbed the most boards of the season with 33. He put up his season-high of nine rebounds twice so far in this early season. Along with that, he is second on the team in assists with 10.
Westmont has two Division I transfers on their roster, and they are Jalen Townsell and Jarrett Bryant. Townsell transferred to Westmont from Sacramento State while Bryant came to Santa Barbara from Portland. Bryant is second on the team in points with 48 while Townsell is close behind with 39.
