ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (Feb. 2, 2023) – The UC Santa Barbara Women's Indoor Track and Field team is back in action this weekend as they compete in the New Mexico Collegiate Classic Invite hosted by the University of New Mexico. The facility the team is competing in is where the NCAA Indoor Championships will take place, so this gives the Gauchos an opportunity to compete at this location prior to March.
The Gauchos are coming off their first weekend of competition at the UW Invite in Seattle. One of the best performances of the meet came from Amanda Spear, who hit a new PR in the weight throw with a 15.59-meter throw, which was good enough to finish in fifth in the meet. Along with her, Kennedy Johnson had a stellar meet to kickstart her freshman campaign. She earned fourth in the triple jump, securing that spot with a 11.86-meter jump. To round out some of the top performances, Sarah Chaves tied the UC Santa Barbara indoor 3,000-meter run time, coming across the finish line at 9:46.38 to solidify her spot in the record books.
During this meet, the Gauchos will be taking on eight teams who are named one of the Top 25 teams in the country, including the No. 1 Arkansas Razorbacks and the No. 3 Texas Longhorns.
The first event for UC Santa Barbara will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, at the Albuquerque Convention Center. For more information on the meet, visit golobos.com.
