Gauchos Take On Final Regular Season Road Game Against Aggies

DAVIS, Calif. (March 1, 2023) – The UC Santa Barbara Men's Basketball team (22-7, 13-5 Big West) will compete in the final road game of the regular season as the Gauchos take on the Aggies of UC Davis. The last time these two teams played each other was in The Thunderdome, when the Gauchos defeated the Aggies 84-74. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Gauchos played the second leg of the series against UC San Diego, who they have not played since New Year's Eve. Miles Norris went off in his hometown, putting up a game-high 25 points while shooting at 81 percent. With his help and the other four starters putting up double-digit points, the Gauchos came out with the 87-71 win over the Tritons as they head into the final two games of the season.

SCOUTING THE AGGIES

  • UC Davis is coming off two wins against UC San Diego and Cal Poly. The team did have to take a game off due to injury, resulting in an uncompleted contest with Cal State Fullerton.
  • Elijah Pepper is one of the best players in the NCAA as a whole. He has 617 points on the season, which puts him in 14th in the NCAA. He is also eighth in the country when it comes to points per game as he averages 22 points per game for the Aggies. To top it all off, he is 30th in the NCAA in field goals as he registered 207 so far this season. The junior also leads the Aggies in assists as he tallied 96 so far this season. He has also grabbed the most boards with 164, averaging 5.86 a game.
  • Two other Aggies are averaging double-digit points, and they are sophomore Ty Johnson and senior Christian Anigwe. Johnson is currently averaging 14.57 points per game after transferring to UC Davis from Loyola Chicago while Anigwe is putting up 12 points per game. Anigwe is also one of the team's leaders in rebounds with 5.78 while leading the conference when it comes to blocks, averaging 1.44 a game. Johnson, on the other hand, leads The Big West when it comes to steals as he has 50 on the season, which averages out to 1.79 a game.
  • Only one player has seen time in all 29 games this season, and that is sophomore guard Leo DeBruhl. He only started in one game this season but is one of the team's primary players off of the bench.
  • Two of these Aggies were teammates once and became teammates again here at Davis. DeAndre Henry and Kane Milling were once teammates at Nevada before making the move to UC Davis.
  • UC Davis is coached by Jim Les, who has spent 21 years as a head coach with 12 of those seasons being with the Aggies. Before coming to UC Davis, he was the head coach at his alma mater, Bradley. Over the course of his career, he has accumulated a 328-324 record. Since taking over for the Aggies, he has earned a record of 174-184.
