Gauchos Continue Road Trip with Match Against Pacific

The Gaucho Women's Soccer team will continue their road trip with a match against the Pacific Tigers on Sunday, Aug. 27.

STOCKTON, Calif. (Aug. 26, 2023) - The UC Santa Barbara Women's Soccer team (1-0-2) continues their road trip with a stop in Stockton to take on the University of Pacific (1-1-1) on Sunday, Aug. 27. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Knoles Field.

UC Santa Barbara is coming off a 0-0 draw to Fresno State while the Tigers of Pacific dropped their Thursday match, 2-0, to UC Irvine. The Gauchos currently leads the all-time series against the Tigers 10-6-9. The previous three matchups have all resulted in a tie between the two teams.

SCOUTING THE GAUCHOS
As it stands, UC Santa Barbara is the lone unbeaten Big West team in the standings. After an opening-day victory, the Gauchos have picked up a draw in their last two matches and are currently 1-0-2 on the season. Both draws have come against Mountain West opponents, San Jose State and Fresno State.

In Thursday's match against Fresno State the Gauchos out shot the Bulldogs 14-9 and 6-4 in shots on goal. A couple of newcomers got in on the action with Jessica Carlton recording two shots, one being on net while Jaclyn Degidio also recorded two shots both being on target. The Gauchos controlled possession for the majority of the match but just could not find the decisive touch.

Sabrina Hinz earned her second clean sheet of the season with the shutout in Fresno. Impressive defensive play has been on display all season with Shaye Douglas, Kate Killer, Brenna Madruga, Emma Corcoran and Emily Caughey all playing a part in two shutouts.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Pacific will enter the match at 1-1-1. The Tigers opened the season with a 4-4 draw against UC San Diego. Pacific led the match 3-0 at halftime before allowing four goals in the second half, scoring one of their own to earn the result. They would then host Eastern Washington, picking up a 3-2 with the game-winner being a 54th-minute penalty kick goal. Their first road test of the season resulted in a 2-0 loss to UC Irvine.

With seven goals over three games and five different goal scorers, the Tiger offense is dangerous. Not only have they found their rhythm early, but experience has also helped the Tigers with two fifth-year players finding the back of the net twice. Not only do the Tigers have five different goal scorers they also have seen five different players record an assist.

Defensively the Tigers will start a freshman in goal. Libby Davy has started in all three matches and played all 90 minutes in each recording nine saves. The Tigers surround Davy with a pair of fifth-year standouts on the back line to help provide experience with the new face in goal.
