IRVINE, Calif. - The Big West announced the recipients of this week's Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week. Following another unbeaten week for the Gauchos, UC Santa Barbara's own Devin Greer was honored in the weekly awards.
For the second time this season, Devin Greer has been named Freshman of the Week. The Sacramento, California native scored two goals in the Gauchos 3-1 win over Long Beach State. Of her six shots in the contest both that were on goal found the back of the net.
On Sunday, Greer nearly gave the Gauchos a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute. After a ball was served to the back post the freshman got a head on it but was ultimately denied on an outstanding play by the Irvine goalkeeper.
The Christian Brothers High School product will enter week four of Big West play as the Gauchos leading scorer, leader in points and leads all freshmen in The Big West in goals scored.
Greer and the UC Santa Barbara Women's Soccer team returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 13 as they travel to Fullerton, California to take on Cal State Fullerton. The match between the Gauchos and Titans will kickoff at 5 p.m.
