Gauchos Continue Homestand with Regals and Toreros

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara Women's Basketball team will wrap up their homestand this week as they host Cal Lutheran on Thursday, Nov. 21 followed by the University of San Diego on Sunday, Nov. 24.

LAST TIME OUT
UC Santa Barbara got back in the win column last Sunday, Nov. 17 defeating San Jose State 86-76. Alyssa Marin tied her career high as she scored 31 points, 22 of which game from the free throw line. The fifth-year senior broke two single-game records in free throw attempts (25) and made free throws (22). The Gauchos will now look to finish their four-game homestand with two wins.

SCOUTING THE REGALS
The first opponent the Gauchos will take on is Cal Lutheran. The Regals have played one countable contest so far, defeating Ottawa University (Ariz.) 64-62. The Regals are led by Janna Holley, Alexa Greenwood and Kaiya Mack who all average in double figures. Holley and Greenwood each are averaging 14 points per game while Mack is averaging 11.

Cal Lutheran assisted on 12 of their 22 made baskets in their season open against the Spirit. Of their 77 shots that went up, 29 were from beyond the arc. The Regals also lost the rebounding battle in the opener by 10 but were able to force 19 turnovers to keep themselves in the game and ultimately win.

SCOUTING THE TOREROS
The University of San Diego will come into the contest 2-1 on the young season. The Toreros two wins come against Biola and Weber State with their lone loss coming against UNLV on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

Offensively USD is led by Kylie Horstmeyer and Ava Ranson who are both averaging over 11 points per contest. Truitt Reilly sits closely behind them averaging 9.3 points per game. Truitt is also the leading rebounder grabbing seven per contest. The Toreros have two other players grabbing over five per contest.

FOLLOW ALONG
UC Santa Barbara and Cal Lutheran will tip off at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21 inside The Thunderdome. On Sunday, Nov. 24 the Gauchos will then host the University of San Diego Toreros at 2 p.m. Both contests will be streamed through ESPN+.
