Gauchos Return to Thunderdome to Host Phoenix for Saturday Matinee

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Men's Basketball team is back to non-conference action this week as they host Green Bay this Saturday, Dec. 14. The Gauchos and Phoenix will tip off at 4 p.m. in The Thunderdome.

LAST TIME OUT
The Gauchos finished Bold Week 0-2 after dropping games to UC San Diego and UC Davis in their first two Big West games. This was the first year The Big West implemented Bold Week. The format emulated the likes of The Big Ten Conference in order to increase the fan and student-athlete experience.  Stephan Swenson was a bright spot for the Gauchos during the two-game stretch, averaging 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

TOYS FOR TOTS TOY DRIVE
Fans are encouraged to donate any unwrapped toy at Saturday's game as UC Santa Barbara is partnering with Toys for Tots in a toy drive. Fans and spectators who donate an unwrapped toy will receive a complimentary ticket voucher for a future basketball game.

SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
Green Bay travels to Santa Barbara after dropping their sixth straight contest. The Phoenix enter Saturday's game with a 2-9 overall record and an 0-3 record in their conference, The Horizon League.

Green Bay is led by the leading scorer in Division I, Anthony Roy. The fifth-year senior is currently averaging 27.2 points per game. He has scored 20 or more points in nine of the ten games he has played and has posted 30 or more points five times. The journeyman has spent time at four other institutions, most recently with NAIA Langston University last season. Marcus Hall is the only other double-digit scorer for the Phoenix. The duo of Roy and Hall account for 55.6 percent of the Phoenix's scoring.

As a team, Green Bay likes to bomb away from deep. Through 11 games, they shoot an average of 28.4 three-pointers per game; they average just under 10 three-point buckets per game. The three-ball does not pay off for them, as they rank 334th in the country in three-point percentage.
