LAS VEGAS, Nev. --The UC Santa Barbara Softball team rallied from down 6-3 in the sixth inning to win in breathtaking fashion, tallying four runs in the seventh to secure a 7-6 victory over the UNLV Rebels Sunday. Freshman Tehya Banks drove in the game-winning run with a single through the left side to lift Santa Barbara to victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gauchos got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Senior Ashley Donaldson's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Santa Barbara.
The Rebels then rallied to score five runs and take a 5-2 lead before the Gauchos got back on the board in the fourth. UC Santa Barbara scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Ainsley Waddell, which tightened the Rebels lead to 5-3.
UNLV built their lead to 6-3 before the Gaucho offense got back in action, overtaking the Rebels to grab a 7-6 advantage in the seventh. The Gauchos bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Acosta. Freshman Tehya Banks later drove in Acosta to take the lead with a single throught the left side to bring her around.
Sophomore Malaya Johnson got the win out of the bullpen for the Gauchos. The right-hander went five relief innings, giving up two runs, on six hits, and striking out six.
Freshman Ainsley Waddell led the way offensively for the Gauchos, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a double, a walk and an RBI. Junior Elicia Acosta compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Sophomore Jazzy Santos also chipped in, going 2-for-3 for with a walk.
GAME NOTES
- Johnson struck out six Rebels hitters, a career-high for her as a Gaucho. She topped her previous high of five which she recorded last year against Wagner.
- The Gauchos out hit their opponents three times over the course of the weekend, going 2-1 in those games.
- UCSB went 5-for-11 (.455) with runners in scoring position.
- UC Santa Barbara went 13-of-15 in stolen bases on the weekend. They now have 15 stolen bases on the year.

The Gauchos will return to Santa Barbara to host a tournament of their own. They will welcome Michigan, Northern Colorado, Sacramento State and St. John's to the friendly confines of Campus Diamond.
