Gauchos Host Anteaters in Lone Match on the Week

SANTA BARBARA, Calif - The UC Santa Barbara Women's Basketball team hosts UC Irvine for their lone match this week. The Gauchos and Anteaters met two weeks ago in Irvine where UCI won 60-38. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Gauchos strung together another 1-1 week with a win over UC San Diego, 60-52 and narrowly being defeated by Hawai'i 68-64. Now UC Santa Barbara sets their sights on avenging their loss to UC Irvine.

ATTACKING THE ANTEATERS
UC Irvine comes into the contest with the same amount of wins as the Gauchos, 16, but two less losses, seven. Irvine is currently riding a three game winning streak after going 2-0 this past week with wins over UC Riverside and Cal State Bakersfield.

UC Irvine has two players scoring in double figures in Deja Lee and Moulayna Johnson Sidi Baba who average 12.8 and 10.3 respectively. Sidi Baba also ranks second on the team in rebounding with 6.3 per contest. Lee is a two-way threat averaging 2.4 steals and 2.5 assists in addition to her almost 13 points per game.

The Anteaters average 63.5 points in in Big West games, which ranks first in the league. They also hold the top scoring margin in conference with +9.2. Despite a solid 11-3 record Irvine ranks second to last in field goal percentage defense and last in three-point percentage defense during conference games.

The Gauchos and Anteaters will tipoff at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22 inside The Thunderdome. For those unable to attend in person the game will be streamed through ESPN+ with live stats available.
