Day One at the MPSF Championships: Relays and Records

St. George, UT: The first day of the 2024 MPSF championship has concluded, marking the beginning of an exciting journey for the Gaucho teams. Presently, the women's team holds the sixth position with 66 points among the ten participating teams, while the men's team occupies fifth place with 68 points among the seven competing men's teams.

Today's lineup highlighted four significant relay races, including both the men's and women's 200 medley and 800 freestyle relay events.

The women's team showcased their prowess with outstanding performances, securing two top-three finishes. In the thrilling 200 medley, Kristin Bartlett, Ashley Ray, Makena Leacox, and Hannah Joseph powered to a commendable 3rd place, clocking in at an impressive 1:39.77. The excitement continued with the 800 medley, where Samantha Banos, Hazel Derr, Annie Andres, and Paige Gambetta demonstrated their skill and teamwork, clinching a well-deserved second place with a time of 7:15.65.

The men's team showcased remarkable determination, delivering great performances that not only secured two top-three finishes but also broke school records in their wake. In the 200 medley relay, Matt Driscoll, Corban McIntosh, Zachary Tamusaitis, and Henry Adamson surged to an impressive second place, registering a time of 1:25.76, while simultaneously smashing a team record. The momentum carried into the 800 freestyle relay, where Austin Sparrow, Kyle Brill, Jude DiStefano, and Owen Berry replicated the success, clinching another well-deserved second place in 6:25.35. Sparrow also made his mark on team history with a notable 200 split time of 1:34.18, establishing another record.

Tomorrow's schedule begins with the preliminary races at 10:00 am, where competitors will race for advancement. The day will conclude with the finals from 5:00 to 9:15 pm.
