SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Women's Basketball team fell for just the second time at home including their first Big West home loss of the season as the Anteaters topped the Gauchos 54-46.
Flora Goed and
Alyssa Marin combined for 19 points in the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Irvine started the game on a 14-0 run and never looked back. The Gauchos were limited to just five points in the opening quarter, but there was no quit as UC Santa Barbara battled back. In the second quarter, after being down by as much as 15 UC Santa Barbara cut the lead to eight with 29 seconds, a last-second layup by the Anteaters would put them up 10 at the break.
Out of halftime, the Anteaters built their lead to 17 forcing the Gauchos to take a timeout to regroup. Unfortunately, the Gauchos could not find their rhythm in the third. They continued to grind out possessions and in the fourth found success both on the offensive and defensive end. Santa Barbara would cut the Anteater lead to eight after
Jessica Grant hit a three-pointer off an assist from
Alexis Whitfield. Also fueling the run was
Flora Goed who added four points during the stretch.
The Gauchos could not cut the lead any further and ultimately fell 54-46.
LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS
- Flora Goed returned to the floor for the first time since Jan. 13 and led the team in scoring with 10 points. Her third highest total this season.
- Skylar Burke recorded her 200th career rebound in the game and now has 205 total rebounds.
- UC Santa Barbara fell for the first time at home during Big West Action. They entered the night on an eight-game home winning streak, seven of which were Big West victories.

UC Santa Barbara will take the next week to prepare for Cal Poly. The Gauchos and Mustangs will square off next Thursday, Feb. 29 at 6 p.m. The Gauchos will travel to San Luis Obispo for the final meeting between the two teams in the regular season.
