Gauchos Set to Open Big West Play at Hawai'i

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Men's Tennis team returns to action tomorrow, Thursday, March 28 as they take on Hawai'i for their first Big West contest. The Gauchos are coming off two straight wins over nationally ranked Yale and Nebraska teams.

HISTORY
UC Santa Barbara and Hawai'i will meet for the 21st time. The Gauchos won both matchups last season. The first was held at home at Arnhold Tennis Center with the Gauchos blanking the Rainbow Warriors. The second match was in The Big West Championships where the Gauchos also prevailed 4-1. Santa Barbara owns an 18-2 record against Hawai'i.
 
IN THE RANKINGS
After going 2-2 against ranked opponents two weeks ago the Gauchos improved in the rankings. The Gauchos jumped up to No. 46 as a team while Pablo Masjuan moved to No. 44 in the singles rankings. Masjuan and his doubles partner Gianluca Bunkow slid in at No. 39 in the doubles rankings.
 
BIG WEST PLAY
The Gauchos now begin their quest to repeat as regular season and postseason champions of The Big West. After returning from Hawai'i the Gauchos will host three straight conference opponents in UC San Diego, UC Davis, UC Irvine before wrapping up their season against UC Riverside and Cal Poly.
 
The Big West Championships will once again be held in San Diego from April 26 through April 28.
