Gauchos Drop Two Nail-Biters to Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara Softball team lost two nail-biters on Friday evening as the Beach edged the Gauchos by one run in each game. In game one, Camryn Snyder held Long Beach to just two runs but UC Santa Barbara could not muster the offense to win the game. In game two of the doubleheader the Gauchos lost on a walk-off sac fly.

GAME ONE: GAUCHOS 1, BEACH 2
The Gauchos were trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. UC Santa Barbara scored thanks to senior Ashley Donaldson's RBI double with two outs. The Gauchos were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

Camryn Snyder threw a complete-game, her second in her last three outings. The right-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, none of which were earned, on six hits, while striking out one.

GAME TWO: GAUCHOS 3, BEACH 4
The Gauchos were trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Santa Barbara pushed across two runs in the frame, the big blow coming on an RBI double from Elicia Acosta. Freshman Emily Carr drove in Alexa Sams on a single up the middle prior to Acosta's doubles

After the Beach rallied to tie the ballgame at two, the Gauchos came back to retake the lead in the fifth inning. Freshman Tehya Banks came across to score the lone run of the inning for UC Santa Barbara, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Gauchos. The Gauchos were unable to hold the lead, as Long Beach State scored two times over in the bottom of the seventh inning to grab the 4-3 win. The final blow came on a sac fly to centerfield.

Offensively, the Gauchos were paced by junior Elicia Acosta, who went 1-for-1 on the day with a double, two walks and an RBI. Junior Alexa Sams put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a double. Freshman Emily Carr also contributed for UC Santa Barbara, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
