Gauchos Win Blue-Green Rivalry Match to Earn Big West Regular Season Championship

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Men's Tennis team dominated rival Cal Poly to claim The Big West Regular Season Championship. The Gauchos defeated the Mustangs 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In doubles competition, the Gauchos gained the early advantage with a 6-1 victory from Lucca Liu and Gianluca Brunkow on court two. The Mustangs would draw even with the Gauchos after the 90th-ranked doubles pairing from Cal Poly defeated Pablo Masjuan and Kai Brady on court one. A battle on court three resulted in a Cal Poly 7-6 (5) win to earn the doubles point.
 
As the match moved to singles, UC Santa Barbara leveled the match at one after Pablo Masjuan's 6-2, 6-4 victory in the No. 1 position earned the Gauchos their first point. Kai Brady then gave the Gauchos the lead with a straight-set victory on court five. Conrad Brown extended the lead to 3-1 after a 7-5, 6-2 victory on court six. Luka Mrsic then clinched the match with a 6-3, 7-6(5) victory on court four. The win finished the regular season for the Gauchos who went perfect in Big West play earning them another Big West Regular Season Title.

The Gauchos will gear up for The Big West Championships next week. The Championships begin on Friday, April 26 and run through Sunday, April 28. As the Regular Season Champions the Gauchos earn the No. 1 seed in the Championships.
