STILLWATER, Okla. – The top doubles pairing for the UC Santa Barbara Men's Tennis team consisting of
Gianluca Brunkow and
Pablo Masjuan saw their doubles season come to a close at the hands of the 13th-ranked doubles pairing from Florida State, Wednesday afternoon.
Brunkow and Masjuan jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in the opening set. With what looked like a lot of momentum on their side quickly turned as the Seminoles rattled off five straight games to win the opening set 6-2.
The Gauchos started to gain some momentum back with an opening game win in set two, but again the Florida State duo responded back, this time winning four straight games to take a 4-1 advantage. The Gauchos got on a little run of their own evening the match at four games after a streak of three straight wins. Unfortunately, Brunkow and Masjuan could not keep the momentum going as they lost the next two games ending in a 6-4 defeat.
The loss brings the season to a close. Brunkow and Masjuan become just the fourth Gaucho doubles pair to reach the round of 16 in the NCAA Doubles National Championship.
