Masjuan’s Magical Run Comes to an End

STILLWATER, Okla. – UC Santa Barbara Men's Tennis student-athlete, Pablo Masjuan, saw his run in the NCAA Singles National Championships come to an end in the Round of 16. The 75th-ranked Masjuan fell in straight sets to No. 15-ranked Cooper Williams of Harvard.

The 15th-ranked Williams got out to a quick two-game advantage, but Masjuan responded in full force winning the next four games to take a 4-2 advantage. The two would trade games before Williams won back-to-back games to tie the match up at five aside. The two traded games again and went to a tiebreaker. Williams jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead and Masjuan could not recover, losing the tiebreaker 7-2 and the set 7-6.

In the next set, the duo split the first four games two apiece before Williams went on a three-game run to take a 5-2 lead. Masjuan tried to fight his way back into the match winning the very next game but Williams secured the match with a win the following game.

The loss brings an end to Masjuan's singles season. During his run in the NCAA Singles National Championships, he becomes the first Gauchos Men's Tennis All-American since 2019 and the first student-athlete since 1989 to reach the Men's Singles Round of 16.
