Gauchos Prepare for Road Test Against Toreros, Home Match Versus Spartans

SAN DIEGO – The UC Santa Barbara Women's Soccer team is prepping for their upcoming week against two non-conference opponents in the University of San Diego Toreros and the San Jose State Spartans.

LAST TIME OUT
The Gauchos are still searching for their first win of the season after two draws this past week. After leading for the majority of the match against Sacramento State, an 89th-minute equalizer resulted in a draw. Another first on the season for the Gauchos was a clean sheet against Fresno State. For the second straight year the Gauchos and Bulldogs played to a scoreless draw.

SCOUTING THE TOREROS
The Gauchos and Toreros meet for the first time since the 2021 season where the Gauchos pulled out a 1-0 victory at Harder Stadium. This marks just the second time since 2010 the two teams have played each other.

All-time the Toreros lead the series 9-4-1 and hold a 5-1-0 record at home against UC Santa Barbara. Much like the Gauchos, San Diego is also looking for their first win of the season. They come into the match with a 0-2-1 record and all three matches coming against Big West opponents. San Diego opened the season with two losses against Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State, before drawing with UC Irvine.

Olivia Jandreski is the Toreros' lone goal scorer on the season, netting the goal against UC Irvine. In net for San Diego is Ilise Medrano. Medrano has started all three matches allowing six goals while making 16 saves.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
The Gauchos will look to beat the Spartans for the first time since the 2017 season. Santa Barbara is 0-1-3 against San Jose State since 2017. The last two meetings have resulted in a 2-2 draw (2022) and 1-1 draw (2023).

The Gauchos hold a slight edge in the all-time series with a 6-3-5 record against San Jose State. At home against the Spartans, UC Santa Barbara holds a 2-1-4 record inside the friendly confines of Harder Stadium. Again, much like the Gauchos and Toreros, San Jose comes into the week searching for their first win of the season. The Spartans hold an 0-2-2 record with draws coming against Saint Mary's and Northeastern and losses to Santa Clara and UC Davis. Prior to the game against the Gauchos, San Jose will travel to California Baptist on Thursday.

Although the Spartans have netted two goals this season, the first was an own goal resulting in a team goal. Kennedy Mayo netted her goal against Northeastern in the 17th minute. San Jose State has rotated three goalkeepers into their matches this season with Bente Pernot playing the majority of the time in net. Across 225 minutes Pernot has allowed a single goal while making eight saves and recording one shutout.
