Gauchos Set for Season Opening Meet

BIG BEAR, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara Cross Country is headed to scenic Big Bear for its inaugural meet of the season, competing against UCLA and UC Riverside on Friday, Aug. 30.
 
The Tri-Meet will begin at 9 a.m. PT with the women's race. After the women's side concludes, the men's race will start at 9:30 a.m. PT.
 
MAKING THE TRIP
UC Santa Barbara has traveled 11 women and 18 men for the race on Friday. Jana Barron, Ashley Purcell, Lindsey Reed, Keira Sorenson, Ryann Strawn, Alexa Bryson, Lexi Darley, Danielle Hollander, Claire Babbitt, Yasmin Ghaneh and Leah Mendibles is the travel party for the women.
 
Gus Marshall, Kellen Kirby, Aakersh Mathur, Parker Stickney, KC Barber, Zaki Blunt, Noah de la Rionda, Van Filek, Matt Frey, Ethan Godsey, Advait Krishnan, Dylan Manning, Nate Osborn, Hayden Owen, Zachary Parker, Ben Pinkel, Jake Ratkovich and Parker Simmons round out the travel party for the men.
 
CONDITIONS
It will be a perfect day for the Gauchos as they compete in their first meet of the 2024 season. During the women's race, it will be sunny with temperatures at 70 degrees. As the men get set to compete the temperature will climb just a touch to to 72. A slight four-mile-per-hour breeze won't affect the runners much and there is no rain in the forecast.
 
UP NEXT
Following the meet the Gauchos will have about a month to prepare for the Riverside Invitational hosted by UC Riverside. The women will run on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7:15 a.m. while the men will compete after at 7:50 a.m.
