MANHATTAN, Kan. – The UC Santa Barbara Women's Volleyball team (4-8) had one more match to play in Manhattan, Kansas to wrap up non-conference play as they took on Oklahoma. By the end of three sets, it was the Gauchos who came out on top as they earned their second-straight sweep with scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-23.
FROM HEAD COACH MATT JONES
"This was arguably our cleanest match of the year. Credit to the whole team and staff as we continue to learn and improve. This was a nice confidence boost as we head into conference play."
HOW IT HAPPENED
UC Santa Barbara came out strong as Oklahoma made three-straight attack errors to start the first set. But even with that start, the Sooners rallied back quickly, tying up the match and staying within two of the Gauchos. This continued all the way until the very end where the Sooners again made numerous errors, resulting in UC Santa Barbara winning this first set 25-23.
From there, the Gauchos were on a roll.
Angie Dentoni,
Grace McIntosh and
Sophie Reavis went on service runs to push their team ahead of the Sooners. By the time the second set was over, UC Santa Barbara had a comfortable lead that gave them the 25-18 win.
The third set started similarly to the second as the Gauchos grabbed an early lead over the Sooners. With the help of
Eva Travis,
Layanna Green and
Harper Hall, UC Santa Barbara went on a 11-2 run that gave them a comfortable eight-point lead. However, the Sooners are a tough SEC team who did what they could to come back in this set. Although they got close to taking this set into extra points, it was UC Santa Barbara who finished things off as they took down Oklahoma with a score of 25-23.
