Gauchos Ready for Two Matches Against Mountain West Foes

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – After securing their first win last week, the UC Santa Barbara Women's Soccer team is set to hit the road for two matches this coming week. The Gauchos will play at New Mexico on Thursday night followed by a Sunday matinee match against Colorado College.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Gauchos went 1-0-1 last week after picking up their first win of the season and their third consecutive clean sheet. UC Santa Barbara enters the week. With a 1-1-3 overall record. After a 0-0 draw against the Toreros, the Gauchos exploded for three goals against San Jose State. Freshman Devin Greer sported two goals in the match including the would-be game winner. Another impressive outing by Isabella Ong saw the freshman record two assists in the match. Lastly, O'Callaghan Liu scored her first goal since her freshman season helping the Gauchos to their victory over the Spartans.
 
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
The Big West announced the recipients of their weekly award winners on Monday, Sept. 2. The Gauchos swept the awards with Devin Greer earning not only Freshman of the Week but also Offensive Player of the Week. Her two-goal performance in Sunday's match propelled her to the awards. The honors didn't stop there as sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Buckley earned Defensive Player of the Week. The second-year keeper recorded two shutouts and eight total saves while also extending her shutout streak to 315 minutes. The four saves in both games tie a season-high.
 
SCOUTING THE LOBOS
New Mexico comes into the match with a 3-1-0 record. After a season-opening loss to New Mexico State, the Lobos rebounded with three straight wins against UC Riverside, Oregon and San Diego.
 
The Gauchos head to the UNM Soccer Complex as the fourth team in a five-match homestand for Nex Mexico. Over the three-match win streak, the Lobos have outscored their opponents 5-1 and outshot them 46-22. Leading the charge for the Lobos is Presley Devey who has recorded three goals and one assist in her four games. All three goals have gone down as game-winners and 50 percent of Lobos' total goals
 
In goal for New Mexico is Callie Droitsch who has allowed one goal per contest, recording two shutouts and a .500 save percentage. She is the lone keeper to see time this season for the Lobos.
 
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Prior to the Sunday match with the Gauchos, Colorado College will travel to Southern Utah on Thursday, Sept. 5. The Tigers enter the week 3-3-0 on the season and are winners of three of their last four. Their three wins have come against South Dakota State, Northern Colorado and UCCS.
 
As it stands, four of the Tigers' six games have seen multiple goals in the contest with two having five goals. On the offensive side of the ball, the Tigers are very balanced with three student-athletes with multiple goals on the season and two others with one. Finley Schoenbeck and Kylie Smith are tied for the team lead in points with five (two goals, one assist). Despite an even goal differential, Colorado College has been outshot 93-61 in their six matches.
 
In goal for the Tigers stands Regan Wallace and Zahra Cheeseman. Wallace has played in five of the six matches allowing seven goals for a 1.40 goals-against average. She has recorded 18 saves and sports a .720 save percentage. Cheeseman saw her first action against UCCS. She played all 90 minutes allowing one goal with three saves and picking up the win in the contest.
 
FOLLOW ALONG
The Gauchos' match against the Lobos will kick off at 6:30 p.m. PT on Thursday, Sept. 5. Fans can stream the game through the Mountain West Network. On Sunday, Sept. 8, UC Santa Barbara and Colorado College will kick off at 11 a.m. PT. The match will also be streamed through the Mountain West Network.
