Buckley Tabbed as Big West Defensive Player of the Week

IRVINE, Calif. – After shutting out Cal State Fullerton last week in a battle for first place in The Big West, junior goalkeeper Maddie Buckley has been named The Big West Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Buckley has now earned her fourth Big West Defensive Player of the Week Award in her career after coming up big in net against previously unbeaten Cal State Fullerton. In the Gauchos' lone contest last week, the Lafayette, California native recorded five saves and did not allow the Titans to score for just the third time this year. The shutout marked her sixth on the season and 16th in her career. The junior now leads The Big West in save percentage while ranking top five in all other statistical categories.

Buckley and the Gauchos will hit the road on Thursday, Oct. 16 as they head to Irvine to take on the Anteaters at 6 p.m. For those unable to make the trip down, the match will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats available through ucsbgauchos.com/WSOCLiveStats.
