LONG BEACH, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara Women's Volleyball undertook their first road conference match of the season tonight at Long Beach State's Walter Pyramid. The two teams went into the match 2-0 in conference play, but Long Beach was ultimately able to defend their record with a 3-1 win.
The score was deadlocked for the entirety of the first set, with neither team ever gaining more than a three-point lead. It was a 60-point set thanks to a final score of 31-29. Long Beach edged out the win after a grueling, overtime dogfight.
The Gauchos came back to claim set two 25-20. Despite being down 14-11 at the midpoint, the Gauchos nabbed eight of the next nine points to take an 18-15 lead. They sealed their victory during the final push, with Eva Travis landing the final blow.
The third set was similarly paced to the first, with both teams trading points but never gaining a lead. Long Beach was able to once again extract a win, emerging successful with a 25-23 score. The Beach defended their pyramid in the fourth, taking the set 25-17 with the widest margin yet.
