SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Women's Volleyball team hosted UC San Diego tonight to take on the Tritons for the second time this season. While Santa Barbara claimed a 3-2 away win in October, San Diego claimed an away win tonight with a 3-0 shut out.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set set the tone for the remainder of the match, as it was a tug-of-war over the lead. The score flipped back and forth by a couple points and UCSD managed two six-point scoring runs that sealed the deal. They took the first set 25-22.
San Diego stayed formidable through the second, with the tie deadlocked nearly the whole way. The Gauchos got ahead a couple of times, but the Tritons protested. The set went into overtime, and it was the Tritons who ultimately succeeded 26-24.
The third set was the same, with the teams leapfrogging for the lead. The opponents stayed within two points of one another from a slight Gaucho lead at 7-6 to San Diego's match point at 24-22. Though Santa Barbara had a slight lead at 22-20, UCSD managed five in a row to finish the match.
