Women's Basketball Opens Conference Play 2-0

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Women's Basketball team took on Cal State Bakersfield today for their second road game of the weekend and their second Big West Conference game of the season.  The Gauchos put up a score of 67-47 to nab the win and open the season 8-1 for the first time since 1987.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Cal State Bakersfield had the lead for the first and only time at 2-0. The Gauchos got to work quickly, and before the Roadrunners knew it, Zoe Borter had made five points in a row to make it 12-4 Santa Barbara. They held CSUB to a sole three buckets and left the first on top 16-6.

The Gauchos entered the second quarter ahead by ten and immediately upgraded to be ahead by 16. A couple of layups and free throws put the Gauchos in an advantageous situation. Bakersfield was allowed an eight point run to bring the score to 24-16, but the Gauchos rounded up another batch of points before halftime and finished the first portion of the game 32-20.

In the third, the Gauchos made 22 points compared to Cal State Bakersfield's 10 to finish it 54-30. The fourth quarter saw a vast 30 point lead by the Gauchos, as they reached an epic 60-30 standing. The Roadrunners ran a 17 point comeback, but the Gauchos still finished ahead by 20 at 67-47.

Zoe Borter had a bountiful, career-best day, going five-for-five in three point shots and sinking 25 total points. Her sum also serves as the most points a Gaucho has made this season. She shot 63% overall and made all six of her free-throw attempts.

Skylar Burke had her first double-point game of the season, clinching 11 points and securing the second-highest count for Santa Barbara. Bojana Radnjic made her first career three-pointer and Valentina her first career field goal. Ava Rawlins had a season and career-best three rebounds.

Olivia Bradley led the charge in rebounds, pulling seven, while Maddie Naro led in assists in typical fashion with five. The Gauchos had five steals as a whole as well as 15 assists.

NEXT UP
