FRESNO, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Women's Soccer team hits the road for the first time this season as they start their four-match road trip with Fresno State and San Jose State this week. The Gauchos earned a different result in all three of their first game. After a season-opening loss the Gauchos bounced back in the win column before drawing with San Diego on Sunday.
LAST TIME OUT
The Gauchos closed out their homestand this past Sunday with a draw against San Diego. The Gauchos' goal came off the boot of
Olivia Howard, their fourth different goal scorer so far this season.
Caitlyn Simons continues to average over a point a game with two assists this past week. She now leads the team with four points (1 goal, 2 assists) with
Hayden Halscheid close behind her with three points (1 goal, 1 assist).
BATTLING THE BULLDOGS
Fresno State comes into Thursday night's matchup with a 0-0-2 record early on in the season. The Bulldogs opened up the season with a 1-1 tie with UC Davis before a scoreless draw with Cal Poly last Thursday.
Fresno State's lone goal has come from senior Alexis Campbell, who scored her first goal as a Bulldog. Ciara Wilson is the only other Bulldog student-athlete to record about on the season as she assisted on the Campbell goal in the 'Dogs' first game. The assist was Wilson's 15
th career and 33rd point over her three-plus seasons in a Bulldog uniform.
Shivani Battaglia stands tall in net, allowing just one goal over her 180 minutes in the cage. Through the first two matches, she posts a 0.50 goals against average, 11 saves, and one clean sheet.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
Prior to the Gauchos coming to town, San Jose State will take on Saint Mary's on Thursday. The Spartans come into the week with a 1-2 record through three games. After opening up the season with back-to-back loses against Santa Clara and CSUN, the Spartans bounced back with a win over UC Davis.
SJSU was shut out in its first two games, being outscored 4-0. They managed just five shots the entire game against Santa Clara, with all five coming in the second half. In their second game, they were again outshot and recorded just five shots, and just one in second half. In their win against the Aggies, an 87
th-minute goal by Charlotte Memoly gave the Spartans their first win of the season.
Paige Fry has played the majority of minutes in the cage for San Jose, making 14 saves, allowing four goals and posting 2.00 goals against average. Bente Pernot has also seen action in the net. She has earned the one while recording two saves and one goal.
