IRVINE, Calif. – Following the third week of the regular season, The Big West announced its weekly Players of the Week and junior goalkeeper
Maddie Buckley was named Defensive Player of the Week. Despite playing in just one of two matches, her efforts were good enough to earn the award for the third time in her career.
Buckley recorded her first clean sheet of the season in the Gauchos 2-0 win over Fresno State on Thursday night. The junior faced 14 shots with seven being on target and Buckley saving all seven and recording a new season high. The Lafayette, California native helped the Gauchos lower their season long goals against average to 0.600 which ranks 44
th nationally. Additionally, as a team the Gauchos rank 54
th nationally in save percentage with an 84.2.
UC Santa Barbara will stay on the road this upcoming week as they head to the Peace Garden State to take on North Dakota and North Dakota State on Thursday and Sunday respectively.
