Women’s Soccer Travels to UC Davis, Hawai’i

DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Women's Soccer team is set to embark on a two-match road trip starting Thursday, September 25 and concluding Sunday, September 28. The Gauchos get into the thick of their Big West schedule, starting with a game at UC Davis followed by a match at Hawai'i.

ABOUT LAST WEEK
The Gauchos earned their first conference victory last Thursday with a decisive 3-1 win over Cal Poly. The win extended the Gauchos winning streak to seven games and their unbeaten streak to nine. On Sunday, Head Coach Paul Stumpf gave some of the Gaucho starters some much-needed rest before they head into the thick of their conference schedule, allowing the reserves to gain valuable minutes. The Gauchos ultimately fell 2-0 to Weber State.

SCOUTING THE AGGIES
UC Davis comes into Thursday's match with a 2-4-3 overall record and has yet to play a conference match this season. The Aggies currently sit eighth in the conference standings and are the only team to have not played a conference match yet.

Through their first nine games, the Aggies have scored just eight goals. Three of those eight have come from Genavieve Fontes, who is the leading goal scorer for Davis. The other five goals have come from five different goal scorers. Sarah Canavan has dished out three assists which leads the Aggies in that category.

Defensively, Cat Pieper has started all nine games for UC Davis in goal. She has recorded 28 saves, three shutouts and a 0.86 goals allowed average. The Aggies have allowed one or fewer goals in their last four matches.

SCOUTING THE RAINBOW WAHINE
Hawai'i, the preseason favorites to win The Big West, come into the week with a 2-4-5 overall record and currently sit 0-0-1 in The Big West. The Rainbow Wahine have tied their last three matches coming into the game against the Gauchos.

The Wahine have scored 11 goals over 11 matches, three athletes have scored multiple goals so far this season and in total, eight players have scored a goal overall. Tatum Porter leads the offense with seven points (two goals, three assists), but Amber Gilbert follows closely behind with five (two goals, one assist).

Hawai'i has rotated three goalkeepers in net so far this season. Brianna Chirpich has seen the most playing time, appearing in 11 matches for a total of 585 minutes. She has recorded 23 saves, 1.54 goals against average and 4 total shutouts (one solo, three combined). Kennedy Justin has seen the second most time in the net, appearing in seven matches for 315 minutes. Her stats are not far off Chirpich.
