MANOA, Hawai'i – The UC Santa Barbara Women's Basketball team dropped its first road conference game Saturday, falling 67-50 to Hawai'i at the Bankoh Arena at Stan Sherriff Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game got off to a slow start, with the score staying at 5-2 Hawai'i through the first five minutes. Chauncey Andersen got the Gauchos into the competition with three layups, but the Rainbow Wahine closed out the first quarter 16-10.
Hawai'i continued to defend their home court in the second, making it to halftime ahead at 37-23. Zoe Shaw and Maddie Naro put up seven consecutive points for the Gauchos, but Hawai'i dominated the period making 21 points to UC Santa Barbara's 13.
The Rainbow Wahine held up their lead through the third and fourth quarters, with the Gauchos unable to repay their debt during either. Hawai'i exited the third quarter 56-40
Though they were unable to outscore their opponent, the Gauchos stayed on pace with Hawai'i during the second half, scoring only three fewer points than the 'Bows. Hawai'i's assertive first half ultimately proved too strong to overcome, and the Rainbow Wahine won 67-50.
Olivia Bradley led the Gauchos in points for the second game in a row with 15, a feat she accomplished with just 11 minutes on the court. Zoe Shaw followed up with 11 points, nine of them from the three. Chauncey Andersen led in rebounds with six and also made a career-high two steals.

The Gauchos stay on the road for their next game, a 7:00 p.m. match up at Cal Poly on Jan. 22. They return home on Saturday, Jan. 24 to take on Long Beach State at 1:00 p.m.
