SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The UC Santa Barbara men's basketball team defeated Cal Poly for the 17
th consecutive time Thursday night by a score of 107-67. The Gauchos built a commanding lead with a 59-point first half, along with 15 made three pointers and a 66.7 percent shooting percentage. The Mustangs struggled to keep pace with the Gauchos high flying offense.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UC Santa Barbara opened the first half with a decisive scoring drive, quickly establishing momentum.
Marvin McGhee IV started the action immediately, assisted by
Miro Little, his first of 11 on the night. The Gauchos maintained control with efficient shooting, hitting 23 of 28 field goals (82.1 percent), including 10 of 13 (76.9 percent) from beyond the arc.
Throughout the half, the Gauchos capitalized on turnovers, converting them into points and widening the lead. The team was effective in the paint, contributing 26 points in the painted area. UC Santa Barbara's bench provided a significant boost, adding 21 points, while the team collectively assisted on 14 of their 23 made baskets. The half concluded with the Gauchos leading 59–33.
UC Santa Barbara opened the second half with a strong offensive performance.
Colin Smith and
Hosana Kitenge combined on consecutive layups early on, and
Zion Sensley contributed with a three-point play. The Gauchos maintained their lead throughout the half.
Midway through the second half, the Gauchos extended their advantage with a series of three-pointers, including a notable shot from
CJ Shaw. The team's defense limited the Mustangs' opportunities, forcing turnovers and securing defensive boards. McGhee IV and Shaw each added a three-pointer, further widening the gap.
As the half continued, the Gauchos dominated offensively, culminating in a 48-point half. The Blue and Gold closed the half with a commanding lead, ending with a score of 107-67.
NOTABLES
- Miro Little's 11 assists are a new career-high for the junior. It also matches a single-game high for the 2025-26 season with CJ Shaw for most assists in a game. He also added 12 points to record his first double-double of the season.
- The Gauchos have now scored 100 or more points for the second time this season and both have come against Big West opponents.
- The Gauchos 66.7 percent shooting percentage is the best shooting percentage since shooting 71.4 percent against Cal State Bakersfield on Feb. 6, 2025.
- Six Gauchos finished in double figures with Zion Sensley leading the way with 20.
