LOS ANGELES — UC Santa Barbara men's tennis defeated the University of the Pacific 4-0 on Friday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center during the ITA Kickoff Weekend. UC Santa Barbara secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions and went on to win singles matches at the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 6 spots.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC Santa Barbara secured the doubles point with victories on courts one and two. At No. 3 doubles, Pacific's Vraj Patel and Nico Rating took a 7-5 win over Lorenzo Brunkow and Diogo Morais, but the Gauchos responded at No. 1 doubles with Conrad Brown and Dominique Rolland defeating Jonty Giesen and Niv Zuckerman, 7-5. The decisive point came from No. 2 doubles, where Miguel Avendano and Lucca Liu clinched the doubles point for the Gauchos by overcoming Reuben De Klerk and Christof Schaertlin Coffey, 7-6(5).
 
In singles play, UC Santa Barbara continued its dominance. #70 Liu opened with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Terence Das at No. 1 singles. Charlie Underwood followed up with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Zuckerman at No. 6 singles. The match was clinched at No. 2 singles, where #32 Rolland defeated Coffey, 7-6(4), 6-0.
 
The remaining matches were left unfinished. Avendano was tied with Giesen at No. 3 singles with scores of 6-4, 3-6, 3-0. Morais held a narrow lead over De Klerk, 6-4, 5-4, at No. 4 singles. Carson Lee was engaged in a close contest with Patel, leading 7-6(3), 5-5, at No. 5 singles when play was suspended.
