SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The UC Santa Barbara softball team dropped both games on day two of the Silicon Valley Classic to Cal and Santa Clara. The Gauchos were unable to find timely hits and drive runners in.
GOLDEN BEARS 9, GAUCHOS 4
UC Santa Barbara fell to Cal, 9-4, in their first of two games on Saturday. UC Santa Barbara managed 11 hits, including a home run, but was unable to overcome the Golden Bears' early lead and a three-run fourth inning.
UC Santa Barbara faced the Golden Bears in a game marked by consistent scoring from both teams. In the first inning, UC Santa Barbara responded to Cal's initial run by scoring one of its own.
Jazzy Santos walked and advanced to second, setting up a sacrifice fly by
Giselle Mejia that brought
Tehya Banks home, leveling the score at 1-1 after the first inning.
The third inning saw UC Santa Barbara narrow the gap with another run. After Santos and Mejia reached base,
Bella Fuentes singled to center field, allowing
Ainsley Waddell to score. This effort brought the score to Cal 4, UC Santa Barbara 2 after the third inning.
Cal extended its lead significantly in the fourth inning with a three-run home run. Despite this, UC Santa Barbara's defense held strong in the fifth inning, preventing the Golden Bears from adding to their tally. The score stood at Cal 7, UC Santa Barbara 2 after five innings.
UC Santa Barbara added a run in the sixth inning when Fuentes hit a solo home run down the left field line. However, the Golden Bears maintained the lead at Cal 8-3.
In the final inning, UC Santa Barbara managed to add one more run. Santos doubled, and Mejia singled up the middle, driving in Santos. Despite the effort, UC Santa Barbara fell short as the Golden Bears secured a 9-4 victory.

UC Santa Barbara fell to Santa Clara in five innings, 9-1, to end their Saturday. Despite the loss, UC Santa Barbara tallied six hits, but struggled to bring runners home, leaving seven on base.
UC Santa Barbara faced a challenging matchup against the Broncos, falling behind early in the contest. SCU took a commanding lead in the first inning, scoring three runs. A two-RBI single and an RBI single contributed to the early advantage, making it 3-0 after the opening frame.
In the second inning, the Broncos extended their lead with three more runs. A steal of home, and a triple in another run, pushing the score to 6-0. UC Santa Barbara attempted to respond in the third inning.
Jazzy Santos singled, and
Tehya Banks, after reaching on an error, scored on a double play, marking the team's first run. However, the score stood at 9-1 after three innings as SCU added three more in its half of the third, with a two-RBI triple and an RBI single.
UC Santa Barbara continued to battle, showing offensive potential but leaving runners on base. In the fourth inning,
Emily Carr and
Jaelyn Toledo each singled, but the team was unable to capitalize further. The final score was Santa Clara 9, UC Santa Barbara 1 after the fifth inning, as the game concluded with the Broncos maintaining their significant lead.
