Gauchos Wrap Up Indoor Regular Season at BU Valentine

BOSTON, Mass. (Feb. 14) – The UC Santa Barbara Women's Indoor Track and Field team capped off their East Coast weekend at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University. Competing on one of the nation's fastest tracks, Massachusetts showed the Gauchos plenty of love, as they continue to stack podium finishes and rewrite program records.

The track events opened with the 60m hurdles preliminary round, where Jess Mackenzie crossed the line in 8.73 and Alison Tjoe followed with a personal best of 8.95 to advance to the finals. Hanna Barmettler added a time of 9.25 in the event.

In the 60m dash, Amor Jones recorded a time of 8.04.

Mia Shepard delivered another knock out performance in the invitational section of the 400m, cruising to a second-place finish in 53.53. Briana Bartone and Natalia McGowan followed with times of 57.13 and 59.44, respectively.

For the 60m hurdles finals, Mackenzie climbed up the rankings to finish sixth overall in  8.78, and Tjoe finished eighth in 10.17. 

In the 800m, Kenna Bradley posted a time of 2:17.11, putting her number five all time in the event in school history.

Makcenzie rounded out her weekend on the track in the 200m, where she clocked in a time of 26.22.

Freshman Isabel Ross continues to impress with a standout performance in the 1000m, shattering the program indoor record with a time of 2:49.61.

Addie Oversmith delivered  a standout performance in the 3000m, clocking in 9:48.30 to move to third all time in program history. Jordin Lieberman followed with a time of 10:02.98, earning the fifth fastest mark in the UC Santa Barbara record books.

In the field events, Natalie Lyons opened in the long jump, posting a mark of 5.47m to secure a sixth place finish overall. Ally Tito and Dalila Washington both cleared 1.65m in the high jump, while Bella Valley recorded a throw of 12.12m in the shot put.

Kayla Yap registered a personal 16.56m to move to fifth all time in program history in the weight throw. Dimitra Vitogiannis followed with a throw of 13.94m, rounding out another productive day in the field for the Gauchos.

UP NEXT
The Gauchos now await potential NCAA Indoor Championship qualifying marks as the national list continues to take shape, as several athletes remain in contention to compete on the national stage. UC Santa Barbara will now shift its focus to the outdoor season, officially opening competition on March 5 with a home meet.
