Gauchos Set for Harvard Showdown, Big West Opener in Hawai‘i

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Men's Tennis team continues its challenging stretch with a home matchup against No. 49 Harvard on Mar. 22 before opening Big West play on the road at Hawai'i on Mar. 26.

LAST TIME OUT
The Gauchos narrowly defeated No. 72 Texas Tech 4-3 after a tightly contested match that swung back and forth throughout singles play. 

The Gauchos secured the doubles point early and picked up key singles wins from Dominique Rolland, Charlie Underwood, and Conrad Brown, with Brown clinching the victory in a close two-set match. Although Texas Tech fought hard and won three singles matches, UC Santa Barbara held on to improve to 10-5 on the season.

ABOUT THE CRIMSON
No. 49 Harvard is 10-7 on the season and continues its West Coast trip after earning a hard-fought win over San Diego State, followed by a loss to No. 18 San Diego. In the opening match of a three-match week in California, the Crimson secured a 4-3 victory over San Diego State in a nearly four-hour battle.

Harvard is still seeking its first true road win after an 0-3 start away from home, but boasts two ranked singles players in No. 84 Rohan Murali and No. 112 Peter Benjamin Privara.

ABOUT THE RAINBOW WARRIORS
The Blue and Gold will open Big West play on the road in Hawai'i, where they are set to face the Rainbow Warriors. Hawai'i enters the match at 8-6 overall and 1-0 in conference play after a 4-0 sweep of UC Riverside on Feb. 12.

The Rainbow Warriors have since dropped back-to-back matches to ranked opponents, falling 4-2 to both No. 64 UNLV and No. 48 Loyola Marymount, snapping a four-match win streak. Senior Azuma Visaya leads the team with a 7-5 overall record this season, while the doubles pairing of Adriano Dzhenev and Kent Mueller has impressed with a 7-2 mark in the spring campaign.
