Gauchos Cruise Past UC Davis 4-0

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – No. 32 UC Santa Barbara continued its strong start to Big West play Saturday afternoon, defeating UC Davis 4-0 at the Arnhold Tennis Center. The Gauchos improve to 14-5 overall and remain undefeated in conference at 3-0, while the Aggies move to 9-11 overall and 2-3 in the Big West.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC Santa Barbara established control early behind a sharp showing in doubles. The No. 53 duo of Miguel Avendano and Lucca Liu opened with a quick 6-1 victory on court one over Dylan Paterson and Ivan Savkin. 

Shortly after, Lorenzo Brunkow and Diogo Morais secured the doubles point with another 6-1 decision against Kaveh Taheri and Perry DiGiulio on court three. The match on court two, featuring Conrad Brown and Dominique Rolland, was left unfinished with UCSB leading 4-3.

Singles play continued to tilt in favor of the Gauchos as three straight-set victories sealed the match.

Charlie Underwood extended the lead to 2-0 with a commanding 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 5, showing control throughout the match. Diogo Morais followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court three, putting UCSB within one point of the win.

Lucca Liu delivered the deciding point at the top position, defeating Kaveh Taheri 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the shutout victory.

With the team result secured, three matches were halted. Dominique Rolland held the advantage at No. 2 after taking the first set 6-3 and leading the second 2-1. Miguel Avendano was in a tight battle at No. 4 after a 7-5 first set, while Carson Lee had rebounded from a first-set loss and was ahead 4-1 in the second set at No. 6.

The Gauchos have now opened conference play with three straight victories and continue to show depth throughout the lineup as they move further into their Big West schedule.
