POCATELLO, Idaho – After three consecutive draws, the UC Santa Barbara Women's Soccer team got back in the win column by defeating Idaho State 3-1 Thursday night. Two late first-half goals put the Gauchos on top, and a third goal in the second half gave the Gauchos breathing room down the stretch.

"It was a constant battle between two teams who looked to really build and play," said Stumpf. "It felt like a chess match which we enjoy. We got a good come from behind win at elevation in a pretty gutty performance. Overall a great result."
HOW IT HAPPENED
For the majority of the first half, the Gauchos and Bengals traded shots, with neither side finding the back of the net. In the 32
nd minute, the Gauchos asked for a review on a penalty that was not called in the box. After review, the Gauchos were awarded a penalty kick.
Caitlyn Simons stepped up to take the shot, but was denied by the Idaho State goalkeeper. Less than five minutes later, the same situation happened, but in favor of the Bengals. Idaho State converted their PK and took an early 1-0 lead in the 36
th minute.
Less than two minutes after the PK goal by Idaho State, UC Santa Barbara leveled the score after
Isabella Ong found the back of the net from 20 yards out. The Gauchos quickly capitalized on their next possession, and
Caitlyn Simons beat the Idaho State keeper to give the Gauchos a 2-1 lead late in the first half, and they would carry that score until halftime.
The Gauchos took complete control in the second half and extended their lead in the 67
th minute. A corner kick off the boot from
Ava Jarolimek found the head of
Hailey Tyacke, who scored, resulting in her first collegiate goal. The Gaucho defense held firm down the stretch and did not allow the Bengals to find the back of the net, polishing off the game with a 3-1 victory.
