FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Gauchos finished their Mountain West road slate on Saturday morning against South Dakota, who took the match 3-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gauchos were close to the Coyotes through the first. They tied it up at 13-13, but several points by South Dakota pushed them ahead. The Coyotes carried ahead, making multiple clusters of points to make it a 25-16 win.
South Dakota also won the second set 25-16. The Gauchos were just one point behind at 10-11, but the Coyotes were the first to 15 at 15-11. South Dakota went straight forward from there, taking the second set in a row.
The Gauchos came much closer in the third set, though the Coyotes came out on top 25-22. Santa Barbara reached a small lead at 13-12 and 16-15. South Dakota reached a 23-20 lead, but the Gauchos came back several points to get to 22-23. South Dakota still won the set, and the match ended 3-0.

Gabi Martinez scored her third double-double of the season with 14 kills and 10 digs. Two more Gauchos picked up 10+ digs, with Danica Rach scooping 10 and Cortni Youngblood 12 for four per set. Bella Mathis put down four kills to hit .333, along with a solo block.
UP NEXT
The Gauchos remain on the road for the next week, heading to Los Angeles County for three matches. First, they'll head to Malibu for a showing against Pepperdine on Friday, Sept. 19. Their next two matches will be played at Southern California's Galen Center on Sept. 20 and Sept. 21. On Saturday, the Gauchos will face UC Davis at 1 p.m., and Sunday's match will be against USC at 7 p.m.
