Pat Chung Joins Women’s Basketball Staff

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara Women's Basketball has hired Pat Chung as its new Assistant Coach and Director of Basketball Operations. Chung joins after spending six years at fellow Big West school Long Beach State, having played there as a guard from 2020 to 2025 and working as a graduate assistant from 2025 to 2026.

"We are so excited to welcome her to our Gaucho family. She is a tremendous teacher of the game, connects naturally with student-athletes, and brings great energy and enthusiasm, " Jimenez said. "As a California native and former Long Beach State player, she will be a relentless recruiter in our state. Most importantly, she is eager to learn and willing to do whatever it takes to help our players and program be successful."

Chung began her collegiate career in 2020 as a freshman at Long Beach State. She was named to the Big West All-Freshman Team after playing in all 21 games and averaging 6.5 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. During her fourth year, she started all 33 games and led the team in assists while averaging 8.8 points per game. She made double-digit points 14 times and was a 2023-24 CSC Academic All-District selection. 

Chung was the team captain from 2023-25 and earned a Big West Honorable Mention in 2025. She was named to the Dean's and President's Honors List from 2021-25. She earned her BA in Psychology, then transitioned to the Beach's staff, where she worked as Graduate Assistant while pursuing an MS in Sports Psychology. 

Chung attended Mark Keppel High School in Alhambra, where she was a three-time letter winner and two-time First Team All-League selection. She also earned All-Area First Team selection, Second Team All-CIF honors, and Cal Hi-Sports All-State First Team (Division II) honors.
