Rankin lettered three years at Newport Harbor HS as a utility player for the Sailors and coach Ross Sinclair, earning Second Team All-League, Third Team All-CIF, and a Player of the Week Award...In his senior year, Rankin scored 45 goals with 40 assists.

John Michael Rankin was born on October 15, 1999 in Newport Beach to parents Mike and Sally...Grew up with his siblings Billy(15) and Annie(18)...Plans to major in economics at UCSB...Roots for the Los Angeles Lakers and his favorite athlete is Russel Westbrook... Listens to Travis Scott and his favorite movie is Seven...Most memorable sports moment was winning the Battle of the Bay in his senior year... Favorite novel is Unbroken, and John loves to surf in his free time.
