2015
Sydney Fuertes played and started in all of UCSB's matches this season..Was named 2015 Second Team West Region by the NSCAA as well as Second Team All-Big West.. Leader of the defensive unit that limited its opponents to two or fewer goals in the first 18 games of the season..One of the three players to earn the Big West Player of the Week.. Second on the team in minutes played.
2014
Fuertes was one of just two Gaucho players to start all 19 games in 2014...Was a mainstay of a defensive unit that allowed just 26 goals in 19 matches...Scored her first career goal in the final match of the 2014 season, a 4-2 loss at Cal State Fullerton...Fuertes had just three shots as a sophomore.
2013
In her first year with the Gauchos, Fuertes saw a lot of playing time, starting in 15 out of 16 matches...Had three shots, one apiece against Pacific, New Mexico, and Hawaii...Was a key member of a stellar UCSB defensive unit.
HIGH SCHOOL/CLUB
Sydney Fuertes attended San Clemente High School where she played for Stacey Finnerty…Played sweeper and midfield…Was a third team All-Orange County selection from 2010-13…Voted her team’s Rookie of the Year in 2010 and its top defensive player in 2011…Helped San Clemente HS to South Coast League titles from 2010-13…The school also advanced to the CIF Finals three times, the state semifinals twice and the finals once…Played for Greg Baker and the So Cal Blues Soccer Club…Helped the Blues to the National League finals in 2011.
PERSONAL
Fuertes was born December 11, 1994 in San Clemente, Calif….Daughter of Angel and Darlene Fuertes…Won a USAA National Sciences Award in 2010-11 and was a USAA All-American Scholar that same year…An AP Scholar and SCHS English Achievement Award-winner…Hopes to major in pharmacology at UCSB and would like to became a pharmaceutical scientist.
