2016: In her junior season, played in 23 matches and 81 sets ... Missed the final six matches of the season with a leg injury ... Finished the year with 255 kills (3.15 per set) on .229 hitting with 188 digs (2.32 per set), 44 blocks (0.54 per set), and 20 aces (0.25 per set) ... At the team's post-season banquet, was voted as the Co-MVP alongside Lindsey Ruddins ... Had 10+ kills in 15 matches, 10+ digs in eight matches ... Recorded seven double-doubles ... Ranked second on the team in kills per set, digs per set, and double-doubles ... Averaged 3.38 kills per set on .285 hitting in September, her best single-month numbers in both categories ... Was named to the Big West All-Academic Team (3.5+ cumulative GPA, 1+ year at member institution, 50% or higher participation in team competitions).
2015: Played in 42 sets through 12 matches … Played in the first 12 matches of the year before missing the rest of the season due to injury … Matched career-highs with 15 kills and six total blocks against UCLA (9/13/15) … Recorded a season-high 11 digs at Hawai’i (9/25/15) … Hit a season-high with two service aces against Loyola Marymount (9/18/15) … Finished the season with 82 kills and was third on the team with 1.95 kills per set … Also had season totals of five assists, three aces, and 19 blocks, averaging 0.45 per set.
2014: As a freshman, Hoffman made an immediate impact on the team in becoming one of its top attackers, while also leading UCSB with seven double-doubles … Her 229 kills ranked third on the team, while her 2.34 kills per set average ranked fourth … She dealt 22 service aces (third best on the team) in averaging 0.22 per set … In recording her double-doubles, Hoffman was busy defensively in scooping up 189 digs (third on the team) … Hit a career-best 15 kills on two occasions and picked up a season-high 16 digs at Hawaii (10/26/14) … She was named the Big West Freshman of the Week after putting up career numbers against UC Irvine (10/10/14) and Cal State Fullerton (10/11/14) … Against the Anteaters, she recorded a team-high 14 kills and a then career-best 11 digs, while also adding four blocks at the net … At Fullerton, Hoffman finished with 19 points after posting a career-best six block assists and 15 kills behind a solid .419 hitting percentage … She also came up just one dig shy of a double-double against the Titans and was force at the service line, highlighted by an 8-0 run she orchestrated to give UCSB’s its first lead of the match.
High School: Played four years under coach Arlen Elvik at Santiago High … She concluded her high school career as Riverside County’s all-time kills leader with 1,338 kills … As a senior, she also garnered a myriad of awards including being named the Div. II Player of the Year, the All-CIF Player of the Year, the All-League MVP, the HS GameTime Player of the Year, and a PrepVolleyball All-American … In 2013, she led the Sharks to a 40-1 season when the team was ranked among the top-50 in the nation, won its CIF Sectional, and made its first ever appearances in both the CIF and State Championships … In her team's final game of the season against Archbishop Mitty HS, the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, Hoffman recorded 21 kills and swung for a forceful .667 hitting percentage … A team captain for three seasons … Was named all-league in every year since she was a sophomore … She picked up her first All-League MVP as a junior, and was All-State, All-CIF, and All-Area First Team that year as well.
Club: Hoffman competed with the Mavericks Volleyball Club … Was named all-tournament at Junior Nationals in 2012, 2013, and 2014 ... With the 16-1's, she earned a silver medal at Junior Nationals in 2012 ... Under head coach Christina Gordon, she led the 18-1's Mavericks VBC to a bronze medal at the 2014 Junior Olympics.
Personal: Chanel Aaron Hoffman was born on May 24, 1996 in Laguna Hills, Calif. to parents Chris and Valen … She has a younger sister named Chloe … Her favorite moment at UCSB was playing with her best friend, setter Hannah Juley, during her junior season ... Her most memorable pre-UCSB sports moment was being named the California Player of the Year as a high school senior … Her favorite athlete is April Ross … Favorite music artists are Halsey, Staind, Linkin Park, Brad Paisley, and Keith Urban … Favorite movies are Happy Gilmore and Talladega Nights ... In her free time, enjoys playing beach volleyball, tanning, and hanging out with friends in family … Majoring in communication.
