Box Score FULLERTON, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara scored three goals in the first half on the road at Cal State Fullerton and held on to defeat the Cal State Fullerton Titans, 4-2. With the win, the Gauchos move to seven points in league play.
Sophomore Indiana Mead gave the Gauchos a 1-0 lead in the15th minute when she intercepted a pass and carried the ball in by herself, scoring her second goal of the season and giving her team a 1-0 edge.
UCSB pushed the lead to 2-0 when freshman Angelisa Cortez scored her third goal of the season when she whacked home a shot after receiving a pass from Miranda Cornejo.
Fullerton halved the lead when Christina Bukenroad put a shot into the back of the net in the 25th minute, cutting the score in half, 2-1.
Senior Erin Ortega scored her second goal of the season, unassisted, to give Santa Barbara, 3-1 advantage as the first half ended.
The second half was more of the same, and freshman Mayra Almazan scored unassisted in the 70th minute, giving her team a 4-1 edge. The Titans Brisa Gonzalaz cut the score in half, 4-2.
That was the final score in the match, 4-2 Gauchos.
UCSB will play at UC Riverside on Sunday. The Gauchos will enter their match with a 5-10-2 record and a 2-5-1 record in league play.
