Box Score SANTA BARBARA,
Calif. – Luke Martinez made five three-point baskets
and scored 17 points and Larry Nance, Jr., scored 12 points to help
Wyoming remain undefeated with a 68-40 win at UC Santa Barbara on
Wednesday night.
The Cowboys improve to 7-0 while
the Gauchos fall to 2-4 on the season.
The Cowboys scored the first six
points of the game before the Gauchos went on a 7-0 run to take
their only lead of the game, 7-6. Freshman Michael Bryson
completed the run with a three-point basket.
But Martinez and Nance seemed to
have the answer every time UCSB tried to claw into Wyoming's
lead. Nance ended the Gauchos' 7-0 run with a lay-up, a slam
dunk and a pair of free throws and Martinez made the first of his
three-pointers to push the lead back to eight, 15-7. Santa
Barbara would pull within 16-13 with 9:43 left in the half, but
never got closer.
Martinez made three of his
three-pointers in the first half as his team built a 34-21
advantage. The Gauchos never got closer than 10 points in the
second half and the largest lead was the final 28-point margin.
UCSB was led by Alan
Williams who finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Williams, however, picked-up his fourth foul just three minutes
into the second half and was forced to the bench until there was
just 9:09 remaining in the game. He lasted less than two
minutes before committing his fifth foul and leaving for
good. Kyle
Boswell added 10 points.
"I'm not sure I can remember a game
at home when we shot worse than that," said Gaucho head coach Bob
Williams. "For the most part, I thought we got open looks,
but it just wouldn't fall. I was also disappointed at our
turnovers again. I thought, if anything, there were worse
turnovers than the last game (at Boise State), and that's not
good. We need to get better, and we will."
The Gauchos struggled offensively
all night and finished with their lowest point total of the
season. They made just 16-of-56 shots from the field overall,
28.6%, and 6-of-24 from outside the three-point arc, 25.0%.
UCSB also committed 18 turnovers that led to 22 Wyoming points.
The Gauchos will play their next
two games on the road, traveling to Santa Clara on Saturday, Dec. 1
and San Diego State on Thursday, Dec. 6. Both games can be
heard live on KZSB AM 1290 in Santa Barbara on online at

UCSB returns home on Dec. 15 to
host San Diego Christian at 7:00 p.m. in the Thunderdome.
