UCSB Loses at No. 29 Washington, Hosts SMU Next

SEATTLE, Wash. – Playing without one of its top players, the 62nd-ranked UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team dropped a match at No. 26 Washington, 7-0.

The Gauchos played their match at Washington on Sunday without Benjamin Recknagel who struggled with a back injury.  Playing No. 1, Mathieu Forget dropped a tough 6-2, 6-4 match to the 15th-ranked player in the nation, Kyle McMorrow.

UCSB players also put up fights at No. 4 and no. 5.  At No. 4 singles, Mbonisi Ndiamande pushed Viktor Farkas, but ultimately lost a 6-4, 6-4 decision.  Ndiamande teamed with Forget at No. 1 doubles, pushing McMorrow and Emmett Egger to the limit, 8-6. 

Freshman Ziad Sultan also battled hard at No. 5 singles.  He ultimately lost to the Huskies' Max Manthou, 6-3, 6-3.

UCSB is now 4-4 on the season.  The Gauchos return home to host Southern Methodist University on Saturday, Feb. 18.  The match will begin at 1:00 p.m. on the Recreation Center Courts.
