IRVINE, Calif. – The Big West announced its Men's Tennis all-conference honors on Thursday, with five Gauchos receiving recognition.
Gianluca Brunkow and
Lucca Liu both made the All-Big West First Team as singles players and as a doubles pair.
Brunkow, a senior, was named to the First Team for singles and doubles for the second consecutive year. Prior to the start of the NCAA Tournament, he is ranked as the No. 64 singles player in the country with a 10-8 overall record and 3-1 conference record. Playing most of his matches on court one, four of those 10 wins came against nationally-ranked players, beating opponents ranked 19th, 62nd, 99th, and 121st.
Liu earned the first Big West singles honors in his career after being selected on the 2024 Second Team for his doubles play. Splitting time between the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, the junior compiled a 13-4 overall record and finished a perfect 5-0 in conference play.
Playing just four matches together—two each against UC Irvine and UC San Diego—as a doubles team, Brunkow and Liu were nonetheless impressive enough to be named to the First Team. They won all four of them handily, the closest being a 6-4 victory over then-No. 74 Nguyen/Zamora of UC Irvine. Both of them finished 14-4 in their overall doubles play.
Junior
Diogo Morais made the All-Big West Second Team for his efforts in singles play. Currently ranked 118th, the Portugal native was absolutely dominant on court four, boasting a 17-1 overall record and a 5-0 conference record—including four straight-set victories in Big West play.
Dominique Rolland also earned Second Team honors for his singles play, spending the most time in the No. 3 position but also finishing 6-0 in matches at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Overall, he was 13-1 with a 3-0 record in completed conference matches.
Rolland and
Conrad Brown were selected as All-Big West Honorable Mention Doubles. Brown played mostly in the No. 3 doubles spot but jumped up to No. 1 and No. 2 towards the end of the year, pairing with Rolland to earn a crucial win at No. 46 UC Irvine toward the end of the regular season. Rolland played most of the year in the No. 1 doubles position—earning an 11-5 record—and ended the year with Brunkow as the only ranked Big West doubles team (68).
The Gauchos made the NCAA Tournament with an at-large bid, scheduled to play No. 16 UCLA in the first round on Friday. Hosted at Cal's Hellman Tennis Complex, the match is set to begin at 10 a.m.
